MBB: Looking fastball.

(GP): Yes, and then you ground out to the second baseman and you’re walking back to the dugout saying, “You idiot. Why did you swing at that pitch?”.

You leave that pitch alone, maybeen its 3-0 maybeen its 2-1. Maybeen that 3-1 is not a ball and you walked. Now you wait until it’ 3-2. Now I’m either going to walk or I’m going to put the ball in play. You might strike out. You got two good things that can happen and only one bad one. its in my favor.

That’s what happened. I started getting more serious about when I should and when I shouldn’t swing.

MBB: Twenty-twenty hindsight…why couldn’t Vada have come over and told you that years earlier? acoustic electric guitar guitar string

(GP): Vada was probably the closest (thing for me) having a hitting instructor who aimed me at figuring out how to do things left-handed. Until then, it was just athletic ability, but not trained. I had no idea what I was really doing. I wish I had found out earlier; if someone had just told me to go back before you go forward, so you can recognize the pitch and do more with it…
Back then the common theory was “stay back”. I’m staying back. But then what do you do? You launch yourself forward. As I said, you have to go back before you go forward.

Right-handed, I did that, but I had learned to do it trial and error from Little League onward. It was a natural thing.

Take a quick look at the BB walks and on-base percentage column in Pettis’ line above. Learning plate discipline is not normally soemthing that comes later in a player’s career, and its usually self-taught, a technique the smarter ones latch on to so they can extend their career, powered by years of observation and advertent or inadvertent study. Pettis, though, ran into a fellow Centerfielder who had been a very good offensive player and they worked out a new approach to the switch-hitter’s approach when he was batting left-handed.

Flood Insurance & Disability Insurance

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

With natural disasters so prevalent these days, the one thing we can take away is the need for insurance. Hurricane Katrina showed us the need for flood insurance. The Southern California wildfires have showed us the need for fire insurance. And so on. Estimates of some 40 percent of New Orleans residents had no form of flood insurance pre Katrina even though the New Orleans is a high flood risk area. This is not at all out of the norm. It’s estimated that only about a quarter of homes in high risk areas are even insured for fire or flood insurance. This is unfortunate because flood insurance is some of the most affordable insurance available. It may take some individuals a lifetime to realize the American dream and purchase a home, but we’ve seen first hand how quickly that dream can be destroyed. So, if we can take anything good away from these recent disasters it’s the importance of being protected, especially for higher risk areas. Flood insurance isn’t the only important form of insurance. Disability insurance provides protection for you and your family as well. The question you need to ask yourself is that will you be able to provide for your family if you were unable to work. Disability insurance is a very valuable form of insurance that protects your income. It’s not just for the construction worker who needs to protect against injury. It is actually quite common for sickness or illness to sideline your career. Some 12 percent of the working class will have a disability lasting greater than 5 years before they retire. That’s a large number and a long time to go without income. You can’t just rely on workers compensation, as the accident would have to happen at work. Again, it’s important to remember that most disabilities happen from illness and not injury. Disability insurance protects against both.

Never underestimate the media’s patented ability to smear an entire group of people and their legitimate criticisms due to the actions/attitudes of a few. With just a couple of reports the focus of the complaint can be turned against those voicing the complaint, and as a result the scrutiny being applied to the media by those people falls to the wayside as a result of the media’s ‘larger story’ on the complainers themselves. And the beat goes on.

And isn’t it interesting to see the debate over whether or not this constituted a hate crime? It’s almost like debating which victim’s life is worth more - a black person’s or a white person’s?

Considering that there are those who believe in ’special’ consideration for minority victims when the crime is committed by a non-minority, we all know the answer to that one.

t is depressing, however, to note that the media, so many American receive their information from, is so utterly biased. It’s not so much that I am concerned over their bias, as I am concerned because they continue to lie about it and swear there is no bias in their reporting.

The New York Times owns my own regional newspaper. Now, one would expect it to be biased toward the left of the political spectrum … and one would be correct. It is slightly to the left of the old Soviet Union tome, “Pravda”. But, will they admit it, heck no! But there it is, everyday, in black and white, for everyone to see.

See the Weber report for more interesting grilling trends.

Political “intimate”: New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin may run for governor

Say it isn’t so:

WASHINGTON (CNN) — New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is seriously considering a Louisiana gubernatorial bid, a political intimate of Nagin tells CNN.

According to public records and his campaign treasurer, the two-term Democrat has raised more than a half-million dollars in campaign contributions since he was re-elected in 2006, even though Nagin can’t run for mayor again. (New Orleans limits mayors to two terms.)

Danes did that

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

The FBI says they have recorded several conversations between the two during an 18-month investigation. Sources tell CBS 2 that on Friday, Defreitas told the informant he believed the authorities may be on to him, prompting the feds to move in.

Three of the men were arrested and one was being sought in Trinidad on Saturday. In an indictment charging the four men, one of them is quoted as saying the plot would “cause greater destruction than in the Sept. 11 attacks.”

Authorities said all four were motivated by a pattern of hatred toward the U.S., Israel and the West.

Defreitas said the airport was a symbol that would put “the whole country in mourning.”
Correction. I am soon to have the world’s most wonderful man as my husband. In agony, I told him of my dilemma and asked his counsel on whether I should max out my two credit cards to cover the debt. After all, he should be aware of it if he is going to marry into a pile of credit card debt that I managed to incur in one day.

But he loves me.I saw the deer family again after work yesterday, I’m so dog minded that when I saw something large and buff colored moving out of the corner of my eye, my first thought was that someones dogs were out. It was only after Bambi froze that I realized they weren’t in fact, lose dogs. Great, big, loose dogs. Speaking of great big dogs, two great Danes chased Dogger away at the dog park last night, I was shocked that the Danes did that and I was also shocked that Doggger had the sense to turn tail and run when they told her to. Lou Dobbs loves Goats.

At work we were visited by a raccoon out in the parking lot. Two of the hysterics decided it must be rabid and were horrified when they learned they were not the first to spot Mr. Raccoon and that previous witnesses did not react in the same way. When I told them he lives under the generator they behaved like it was going to turn up under their desks! When I mentioned seeing the deer family they were aghast!

Correction. He committed himself to me completely on the day that he asked me to be his wife. In fact, he committed to my two sons and to any future children we might have. Without a preacher or a license, he promised to be by my side through all of the heartache and pain that comes with being a human in a fallen world. In an instant, his love for me shone into every facet of my life, assuring me of it’s eternal allegiance with a fervor I have never known. There was nothing he would do or say to betray that commitment. I know - I could see it in his eyes.
“Anytime you hit Kennedy, it is the most hurtful thing to the United States,” he said on a recording made by a police informant. “They love John F. Kennedy like he’s the man … It’s like you can kill the man twice.”

The plot, which the men code-named “Chicken Farm,” never got past the planning stages, authorities said.

“The devastation that would be caused had this plot succeeded is just unthinkable,” U.S. Attorney Roslynn R. Mauskopf said at a news conference, calling it “one of the most chilling plots imaginable.”

Hats off to the feds for busting open this plot before it ever had the chance to get beyond the planning stages. Of course, expect the usual suspects on the left to seize on that little tidbit of information about it never getting past the planning stages in order to pooh pooh this threat (as they have several others that have been thwarted over the last several years, like the NY/NJ path tunnels plot, Miami 7 plot, the British airliner plot, and Ft. Dix) as not being a “big deal.” These are the same type of people who would have said the same thing had the 9-11 plot been thwarted before it had the chance to happen.
